The BMW N55 Engine is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine introduced in 2009. It is the successor to the N54 engine and is currently used in a variety of BMW models, including the 135i, 335i, 435i, M2, and many more. The N55 is a direct injection engine fed with a twin-scroll turbocharger and variable valve timing to produce high levels of power and torque.
 
The MEVD17 is an engine control unit (ECU), also known as DME/ECM/DDE. It is responsible for controlling the fuel injection, turbocharging, and other engine management functions. In order to tune the BMW M2, it is necessary to modify the MEVD17 map, through ECU programming, remapping or through the use of an aftermarket tuning box.
